The right brewing method is the one that fits your morning, your equipment, and the cup you like. Start with utility before buying more gear.
Automatic drip
Useful for repeatable batches and shared kitchens. Keep the brewer clean, measure consistently, and use a medium grind as a starting point.
French press
Useful when you want a full-bodied cup and simple equipment. Start with a coarse grind and about four minutes of steeping, then adjust one variable at a time.
Pour over
Useful when you enjoy a hands-on brew and want direct control over pouring. It takes more attention than automatic drip and rewards consistent technique.
Espresso
Useful for concentrated coffee and milk drinks. The machine, grinder, dose, and puck preparation work together, so espresso has a steeper learning curve.
Cold brew
Useful for make-ahead concentrate or iced drinks. A coarse grind and patient filtration help reduce sediment. Dilute concentrate before judging the strength.
Choose with three questions
- How many cups do you make at once?
- How much hands-on time do you want?
- Do you want a clean filtered cup, more body, espresso, or a cold concentrate?
