How to Use a Toddy Cold Brew System

A Toddy system makes cold brew concentrate by steeping coffee in cool water and filtering it. Follow the instructions for your exact Toddy model because capacity and filter placement can vary.

Before you start

  • Use clean water.
  • Use a coarse, even grind.
  • Make sure the reusable filter and stopper are clean and seated correctly.
  • Place the brewing container where it will not be bumped.

Build the batch

Add coffee and water in the order recommended by Toddy. Wet the grounds evenly without aggressive stirring, which can move fine particles into the filter. Cover and steep for the time listed in the model instructions.

Drain and serve

Set the brewer over the decanter, remove the stopper, and let the concentrate drain without squeezing the grounds. Refrigerate the concentrate in a clean, covered container. Dilute a small serving with water or milk to find the strength you prefer.

Fix the next batch

  • Too weak after dilution: use less water or milk in the finished drink.
  • Too strong: dilute more before changing the batch recipe.
  • Cloudy or silty: grind coarser and check the filter placement.
  • Dry or harsh finish: shorten the steep or grind coarser.
