Cold brew is useful when you want a make-ahead coffee concentrate or a chilled cup without managing hot-water technique. It is not a health treatment, and individual tolerance to coffee varies.
A reliable starting method
- Use coarsely ground coffee.
- Combine one part coffee with eight parts cool water by weight for a concentrate.
- Steep for 12 to 18 hours.
- Filter thoroughly.
- Dilute with water or milk to taste.
How to correct the next batch
If the cup is weak, use more coffee or steep longer. If it is heavy or harsh, shorten the steep or grind coarser. Cloudiness usually comes from fine particles, so use a cleaner filter or a coarser grind.
What cold brew changes
Cold extraction creates a different flavor balance than hot brewing. Many people describe it as rounder or less sharp, but it does not remove caffeine and it is not guaranteed to be easier on every stomach.
Keep it safe and fresh
Use clean equipment, refrigerate the finished coffee, and make an amount you can use promptly. If it smells or tastes off, discard it.
